Make your next notary appointment fast and easy! Here’s a checklist to ensure you’re fully prepared before meeting with your mobile or online notary.

Whether you're booking a mobile notary appointment across New York City or scheduling a Remote Online Notarization (RON) session, a little preparation beforehand can make your notarization go smoothly, quickly, and stress-free. Following a few simple steps ensures that everything is ready, saving you valuable time and avoiding common delays.

Checklist to Prepare for Your Notary Appointment

1. Bring a Valid Government-Issued ID

Before your appointment, make sure you have a current, government-issued photo ID ready. Acceptable forms include a driver’s license, passport, military ID, or state-issued identification card. The ID must be valid (not expired) and clearly display your photo and signature. Your notary is required by law to verify your identity before proceeding with the notarization.

2. Complete the Document (Except for Signatures)

It’s important to fill out all required fields in your document prior to the appointment—except where your signature is needed. Never pre-sign the document. The notary must witness your signature in real time, whether in person or during your RON session. Having the rest of the document completed beforehand will save time and help prevent any errors.

3. Confirm Witnesses if Needed

Some documents, such as wills, powers of attorney, or real estate forms, may require additional witnesses beyond just the notary. If your document needs witnesses, make arrangements for them to be present at the appointment. If you're unsure whether witnesses are necessary, ask ahead of time so you can plan accordingly.

4. Have All Pages and Supporting Documents Ready

Make sure you have the complete document, including any attachments, exhibits, or notarization instructions if applicable. Missing pages or incomplete packages can delay the notarization process. For real estate closings or apostille services, having everything organized and complete is especially critical.

5. Be On Time for Your Appointment

Especially for Remote Online Notarizations, timing is important. Log in a few minutes early for your virtual session, or be ready at your mobile notary location at the scheduled time. Being punctual ensures that the notary can complete your signing efficiently and keep the schedule on track.
